The Good Samarateenager

Sister Richardson's Super Split Seconds

Gretta the Jetta's legacy lives on here in Alexandria. Gretta and I found ourselves on the side of multiple roads waiting for C-Rich to save us from a blown-up tire. Lucky for me, after forcing my dad to save me, I did semi-learn how to change a tire. This came in handy on Wednesday when we got a flat tire on our way to pick up some sisters for zone conference.

I ate it handing out food boxes. It was absolute mayhem trying to get everyone what they needed, so much so that I didn't see one of the volunteers set down a box behind me as I picked up another box. One thing led to another, and I was left with a bloody knee for the rest of the duration of my time at the lovely Audubon trailer park community. The best part is, no one even batted an eye as I literally toppled over holding a box of potatoes. Good times, rest in peace to my yellow pants and my pride.

Remember my blown-up tire? Yeah, well, I left out a little miracle. As I was trying to get the jack in place, this 16-year-old kid named Alex appeared out of NOWHERE and offered to help us. He told us how he loved to work on cars and would be happy to make sure I was doing everything correctly. He even said he'd go grab his tools if need be. As hundreds of people raced by us, a teenager, of all people, stopped to serve us. Alex was our real-life Good Samaritan. He could have rushed by us to make it to school on time, but instead, he stopped to help the two random girls on the side of the road. The Savior taught, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me" (Matt. 25:40). In the eyes of the world, we were the "least." We couldn't offer Alex anything in return, other than a grateful heart and a handshake. However, this didn't deter Alex from stepping in to help. Alex exemplifies what it means to minister as Christ would. Life, more often than not, feels like you forgot you were running a marathon. But it's when we stop to serve others that we find meaning in the race of life. We all have the capacity to be the good Samaritan. Whether you're at mile 1, 10, or 26, there are individuals all around you who need you to cheer them on. I invite all of you to be someone's cheerleader this week and minister as Angel Alex did to me!

Have a fantastic week, lovely people!! Be the reason someone smiles today. I love you!!

xoxo,
Sister Richardson
