Huge Mountains To Climb
Sister Richardson's Super Split Second
I don't have a ton of time, so here's a singular split second.
Over the past 6 months, I've probably read "Mountains to Climb" by Henry B. Eyring at least a dozen times. It's simply beautiful. It's always been my favorite talk, but its message has taken on a whole new meaning for me out here. There's a specific line that always sticks out to me, and it reads, "If we have faith in Jesus Christ, the hardest as well as the easiest times in life can be a blessing." I can't read those words without tearing up. Before I left on my mission, I told myself I just needed to survive until Thanksgiving, and if I could do that, I could hack it for a whole 18 months. As my first mental milestone has been approaching, I've been reflecting on the spiritual fuel I've consumed to complete the first leg of my climb, and to keep it simple, faith has been my most consistent reservoir of strength. On days where I've felt the burn of the climb push me to a breaking point, I've asked myself, "What the crap am I doing here and why did I volunteer to do this?" and that's when I remember that I'm here because of an act of faith. I accepted a call to serve because it was what God needed me to do. This is the hardest thing I've ever done. BUT, it's a hard I wouldn't trade for the world because it's strengthened my faith and solidified any uncertainties I had about the plans God has for me and for each of us. I chose to keep climbing because I have faith that God will take me where I'm at and push me to become a better person. So, while this climb sure is a steep one and a climb I sometimes want to give up on, it's a climb I will keep on chipping away at because it's brought me a sense of fulfillment beyond comprehension. What's your mountain and why do you keep climbing?
Your favorite mountaineer,
Sister Richardson
